چکیده

The increasing demand for mobile radio services and the scarce bandwidth available suggest to devote considerable research eeorts to nd more eecient multiple access techniques in order to improve the system capacity. In this work we compare the system performance of three mobile radio systems: the well known TDMA system, which is the basis of the European GSM, the recent CDMA system (a standard introduced by Qualcomm) and the proposed slotted Aloha packet system. The results of this paper show that the performance of slotted Aloha is comparable or better than CDMA, while exhibiting a virtual insensitivity to propagation conditions.

Slotted ALOHA for High-Capacity Voice Cellular Communications

Michele Zorzi, Student Member, IEEE, and Silvano Pupolin, Senior Member, IEEE Abstract—Slotted ALOHA is proposed as a multiple access scheme for high capacity voice cellular communications in mobile radio environment. The performance of such a system, in the presence of fading and shadowing, is evaluated for both Mobile-to-Base and Base-to-Mobile links, in terms of number of supported conversat...

A Study on the Design of Large-Scale Mobile Recording and Tracking Systems

Mobile inventory control system involves large number of highly mobile and dispersed databases in the form of RFID (radio frequency ID) tag devices. Radio tags have limited communication range, bandwidth, computing power and storage. We examine some critical impact of these characteristics on design of facilities and techniques required for supporting integrated mobile distributed databases and...

Adaptive S-ALOHA CDMA as an alternative way of integrating services in mobile environments

Code-division multiple-access (CDMA) schemes appear to be very promising access techniques for coping with the requirements of third-generation mobile systems, mainly because of their flexibility. This paper proposes an adaptive S-ALOHA DS-CDMA access scheme as a method for integrating nonreal-time (i.e., Internet applications) and real-time (i.e., voice) services in a multicell scenario by exp...

Comparison of Tdma versus Cdma for Packet Transmission Schemes in Circuit-mode

We compare the performance of a TDMA multiple access scheme with a CDMA multiple access scheme when both are used for packet transmission in circuit-mode. First we consider a more general model of slotted ALOHA protocol on a channel with capture effect. Both TDMA and CDMA are shown to be special cases of this model. There are Ad < 00 users each with an infinite buffer. If in a slot, i packets a...
